Summary
Iavolan is packed to the brim with magic, creatures, and beings of all sorts. The world and its lore open up a vast number of storylines and possibilities. Fae, dragon hybrids, and humans are the top three most common races, but others do exist such as dwarves, orcs, demi-humans, etc. Monsters and other beings have also been summoned and 'Made' through extensive rituals.
What Does It Mean to Be 'Made'?
Being 'Made' is a simple way of saying you were not born, but rather crafted from magic itself. No two Made beings look alike and often are unpredictable in nature. Most inhabitants of Iavolan shun Made beings, especially the royal families and the Wardens. The only ones that typically accept them are the ones who crafted them. Because Made ones have no true family, they usually feel indebted to their creators until they find or make a family of their own.To be Made is typically looked at like a curse. Wardens will capture Made beings immediately if they find them and always will take them to be imprisoned at The Maze for the rest of their existence. Some Made beings are immortal, some live only a matter of a few weeks, it all depends on the strength of the components used and the magic to craft them.
Current Realm Status
There are no current wars within Iavolan, but the black market in Karnaca and the bandits within The Lost Lands continue to cause issues for the Wardens. The royal family continues to emphasize their law that all Made beings be killed or deposited to The Maze if they are discovered.
Major Factions
ㅤRoyal Familyㅤ Live in the safety of High Keep, never leaving their warded castles. No one interacts with them directly except the Wardens. It has been a long time since anyone has seen any of the royals in person.
ㅤWardensㅤ Wardens are the peacekeepers of the realm, guarding over Iavolan and keeping the wards imbued and powered for The Maze. If anyone is sentenced to The Maze, they are the ones responsible to collect the criminal and deposit them onto the island. They do not have families of their own, believing their family is their faction. Wardens are sterile and obey the commands of the royal family without question due to a binding vow they make when joining the faction. They do not retire; they serve until they die.
ㅤDragon Tribesㅤ Dragons were once the true rulers of Iavolan, but they grew tired of the realm's politics and became reclusive within The Glades. A few dragons have hybrid offspring that have both human and dragon forms - they are the only other beings the dragons allow to coexist with them within The Glades.
ㅤObsidian Syndicateㅤ A mercenary group that collects bounties and fulfills contracts to whoever has enough coin to earn their attention. The Syndicate has no morals or rules and will do whatever necessary to complete their jobs. Their contracts vary, some are simple things such as transporting goods while others are darker and involve hunting down and taking out a target.
Minor Factions
ㅤMerchant Guildㅤ The merchants guild works out of Iavolan's central trading hub, Contra. They work in unison to disperse goods amongst the islands around Iavolan and keep the pirates of the surrounding waters under control.
ㅤSanguine Trigonㅤ The Sanguine Trigon is a cult that worships blood, cannibalism, and ownership of 'dolls'. They believe that Made beings are gods amongst humans and supernatural alike. The number '3' and the symbolism of triangles are sacred to the cult. They represent the unity between the mind, body, and soul.
ㅤRoyals of Low Keepㅤ All other royalty and 'sophisticated' individuals live in Low Keep. They usually stay within their own society and view the outside world distastefully.
ㅤSelune Scholarsㅤ The island of Selune is a place for aspiring mages go to study and hone their techniques and magics. There are various courses of education and classes beings could take, but only if they can pass the entrance exam and be deemed worthy to enter the island.
ㅤPrisoners of the Mazeㅤ The Maze is an intricate prison island where all criminals that are given life sentences are sent to. The island is warded with ancient magic and is absolutely unescapable. Some residents are immortal and have crafted a unique system involving their own government and form of democracy. There are no laws within the Maze. Once you're there, you're on your own.
